Booking Through Thursday (8)

This week...

Do you read any foreign languages? Do you ENJOY reading in other languages?

I don't fluently speak any language other than English. I can translate some Spanish and French, but not enough to read an entire book. I do enjoy books with settings in different countries, though, and I like foreign movies.

This week...

A deceptively easy question for this week (easy to ask but possibly hard to answer): What are/were your favorite book(s) of the year? (Bonus points if you know how many books you read.)

Well let's see.... I've read 103 books so far. I'll create a post on New Years Eve with a list. I can go on and on with all the good books I've read but I'll narrow it down to my absolute favorite:

Yeah, like everyone is saying this was their favorite book of 2012. But I wonder why? Because it was AMAZING. Oh my goodness the feels. The laughs, the cries. No, I was *bawling*. I have never read such an incredible book in my life.

Ugh now I want to re-read it!!

Any books you’re particularly hoping to be gifted this year? Any that you’re giving as presents this holiday season?

My answer to both questions is "no". I don't really like getting books as gifts unless it is something I am absolutely dying to have. I'd prefer a gift card to a book store, so I can choose what I get. But I do know that I'm getting a signed copy of Lullaby by Amanda Hocking from my mom because I was with when she bought it. I have to "act surprised" on Christmas morning.

We all had to read things in school that we didn’t like … but what
about something you read for a class that you ended up liking (or
loving)? An author you discovered that you might not have found? A
genre you hadn’t thought about?

Well, my junior year (last year) I liked The Great Gatsby. This year, I'm a senior. I'm taking an advanced english class this year, so we had summer reading. (ich) We were assigned to read The Awakening by Kate Chopin. I actually really liked it and thought I understood all the symbolism. I guess not, since I failed the test over it. But I'm pretty sure my teacher is just a hard grader.

I've never actually went out and chosen books based on the school required books, though.

Did you have an unpleasant-turned-pleasant school reading experience?

What book took you the longest to read, and do you feel it was the content or just the length that made it so?

Oh my goodness. The first time I read Dark Visions by LJ Smith. It took me a month! I don't know why. I mean, I was an avid reader back then (9th grade) but not as crazy about it as I am now. Plus I was in the hospital for a couple of days during that time, and then I had other things to worry about. I didn't exactly have much time for reading. Also it's just a slow book. I recently re-read it and, well, let's just say I probably wouldn't recommend it.

"I saw this article the other day that asked, “Are you ashamed of skipping parts of books?” Which, naturally, made me want to ask all of YOU.
Do you skip ahead in a book? Do you feel badly about it when you do?"
Well, I wouldn't necessarily say I skip parts of books. Sometimes when the plot gets slow I skim some words to get to the good parts, but I never skip, like, a whole page or anything like that. Frequently I will read the last sentence of a book...before reading any of the middle. I do that so I have something to look forward to when the plot gets slow.

And now I want to know...Do any of you skip parts of a book?

This weeks question is: If you could get a sequel for any boo, what would it be?

My answer to that is: Hades by Alexandra Adornetto.

This is the sequel to her novel, Halo. It came out August 30, but at the time I didn't have any money so I didn't get it. Of course, now I can't find it anywhere. What really makes this all great is the fact that I can't shop online, so... I guess I'll have to wait until the library gets it.
