Review: Halo by Alexandra Adornetto

Halo (Halo, #1)

Goodreads description: Three angels- Gabriel, the warrior; Ivy, the healer; and Bethany, the youngest and most human- are sent by Heaven to bring good to a world falling under the influence of darkness. They must work hard to conceal their luminous glow, superhuman powers, and, most dangerous of all, their wings, all the while avoiding all human attachments.

Then Bethany meets Xavier Woods, and neither of them is able to resist the attraction between them. Gabriel and Ivy do everything in their power to intervene, but the bond between Xavier and Bethany seems too strong.

The angel’s mission is urgent, and dark forces are threatening. Will love ruin Bethany or save her?

My opinion: Alexandra Adornetto has created such a beautiful world. I can't believe shes so young. Her writing style is just amazing.

Bethany, the main character, is completely clueless about human life. I can imagine how hard it would be to write that. I could picture Alexandra sitting in a mall people watching in order to get in the minds of her characters.

This book has a lot of detail. Usually I don't like that. I have such a short attention span that I can't sit through pages of details. But Alexandra Adornetto creates a clear picture without becoming boring. She gets to the point, yet I felt like I was in the story with the characters.

The relationships in this book are believable. I myself fell in love with Beth's boyfriend, Xavier. He's funny and charming; one of those characters you want more of. I don't think I'd be friends with Molly though. Molly is Beth's best friend and I just feel like Bethany clung to the first person she met.

I'm not going to give a name on the bad guy in case of ruining the book, but lets just say I have no idea why Bethany didn't see right away that they were bad. The persons evil was obvious from the start. Its like watching a scary movie and yelling at the t.v. telling the person not to go in a certain room.

I would recommend this to anyone who likes a lighter story vs. ones that are dark and sinister. Its a good love story with obstacles along the way.

P.S. The button above was created by Jess @ Gone with the Words

My teaser is from Halo by Alexandra Adornetto:

"Midway to the ground, I dropped my arms and allowed the transformation to take place. A blinding light shot from inside my body, shining from every pore and making my skin glow like white hot metal. I saw Xavier shield his eyes and draw back. I felt mmy wings burst from behind my shoulder blades. They exploded through the confines of my dress, tearing the light fabric to ribbons."

I previously read this back in October/November and am re-reading it in preparation for the release of its sequel, Hades. I forgot how much I loved this book <3

My New York Summer

I'm going to sway away from books for this post to talk about music..

Recently I've started listening to this awesome Indie band: My New York Summer. Originally the solo project of Nick Cozine, this band now has three other members; Scott(guitar), John(bass), and Ryan(drums). They are currently unsigned, yet I have no idea why. These guys are amazing. So our job is to spread the word and help them get a record deal :)

I would compare MNYS to Never Shout Never. They just have that fresh sound you could never get tired of. This is something I'd definitely listen to when I need cheering up.

My favorite song? Jeesh thats a hard one. I think there are just certain parts of each song that stand out to me. I can't just label one as the best.

Everyone should take some time out to check out their music. I'm sure it would mean the world to them.

You can listen and get your free downloads here: My New York Summer on Purevolume

Try and tell me they aren't cute!

Waiting On Wednesday (1)

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine where bloggers can discuss which books they are most anxious to read. Plus, this awesome button was created by Lindsay at The Violet Hour.

This week I'm waiting for Hades by Alexandra Adornetto, available in the U.S. on August 30th.
Hades (Halo, #2)Goodreads description:  Bethany and Xavier are even closer since battling Jake Thorn and his evil influence (in Halo) and Beth and her angel siblings must still protect Venus Cove from the Dark Forces.

When a party game – a séance – inadvertently releases Jake from the Underworld, he disguises himself and tricks Beth into taking a ride on his motorcycle. When the highway opens up and swallows them, Beth learns too late that she’s now a prisoner in hell. What happens to angels there? As her archangel brother, Gabriel, her sister Ivy, Xavier, and her best friend, Molly search for her, Beth must weigh Jake’s bargaining for her freedom: one night with him, and she will be released back to Earth.
Can Jake be trusted in this wager? And is he also using Beth to engineer the fall of the archangel Gabriel? Xavier has already lost one love – when Jake tricks him into thinking that Bethany is dead, his grief and anger result in a betrayal that will leave Bethany – and readers – wondering if he is so good after all.

It will be up to Beth to use everything she’s learned about her powers as an angel – and about love – to free herself and those she loves from the clutches of Hades.

Right now I'm re-reading Halo, the first in this series. Which means a review is soon to come.
