I'm also Beta reading an *incredible* story for a friend. You'll know more about that when she hears from a publisher :)
Also, for that friend I am reading a book as she writes it. She's sending me each chapter as she finishes them. It's pretty good so far. I'm excited!

2. What did you recently finish reading?

3. What do you think you'll read next?

I don't even know. Probably:

But my birthday is on Saturday and I'm hoping to get:

If so, that will be read before The Fault in Our Stars.

What are you reading this week?

In My Mailbox (6)

In My Mailbox is a meme created by The Story Siren where bloggers can talk about which books they have received over the week.

This week I happily received:

Lenobia's Vow, by P.C. and Kristin Cast

Goodreads description: The second in the enthralling new mini-series of novellas from the #1 bestselling authors of the House of Night, Lenobia's Vow tells the gripping story behind the House of Night's enigmatic riding instructor – and one of Zoey’s closest allies against evil
The House of Night is an international publishing sensation; with almost 12 million books in print, and an incredible 120 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list, the series has taken the world by storm. Now, the excitement continues as the Cast mother-daughter duo shares the back stories of a few of the House of Night's most important – and mysterious – characters. The second of the House of Night Novellas brings us Lenobia, the strong, beautiful horseback riding instructor, who guides Zoey through some of her darkest hours, and has a dark secret buried in her own past...
In a small southern town at the turn of the century, young Lenobia is developing into a beautiful young woman with ideas of her own. But when she is Marked as a fledgling vampyre, her world turns upside down, and she is drawn to the musical streets of New Orleans. There, she learns of the city’s dark underbelly, ruled by powerful black magic. As Lenobia experiences her first love – and loss – and discovers a passion for horses to sustain her, she must come face-to-face with Darkness itself. And she may not escape without scars.

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine where bloggers can discuss which books they are most anxious to read. Plus, this awesome button was created by Lindsay at The Violet Hour.

This week I’m waiting on:

Lenobia’s Vow is the second novella of the House of Night Series. It’s set to be released on January 31.

1. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

 2. Bloodlines by Richelle Mead
3. Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher
4. Destined by P.C. and Kristin Cast

5. Someone Else's Fairytale by E.M. Tippetts

I know that some of these weren't published in 2011, but I read them first this year and that's what I'm basing this list off of.

Review: Destined by P.C. and Krisin Cast

Goodreads description: Zoey is finally home where she belongs, safe with her Guardian Warrior, Stark, by her side, and preparing to face off against Neferet -- which would be a whole lot easier if the High Council saw the ex-High Priestess for what she really is. Kalona has released his hold on Rephaim, and, through Nyx's gift of a human form, Rephaim and Stevie Rae are finally able to be together -- if he can truly walk the path of the Goddess and stay free of his father's shadow.

But there are new forces at work at the House of Night. An influx of humans, including Lenobia's handsome horse whisperer, threatens their precarious stability. And then there's the mysterious Aurox, a jaw-droppingly gorgeous teen boy who is actually more -- or possibly less -- than human. Only Neferet knows he was created to be her greatest weapon. But Zoey can sense the part of his soul that remains human, the compassion that wars with his Dark calling. And there's something strangely familiar about him . . .

Will Neferet's true nature be revealed before she succeeds at extinguishing Light? And will Zoey be able to touch Aurox's humanity in time to protect them all? Find out what's destined in the next thrilling chapter of the House of Night series.

Ohmygodohmygodohmygod. Soooo much stuff happens in this book. Seriously. There was never a dull moment. The book never slowed down. I was hooked from the very first sentence, and all the way through.
And the characters. Wow. There’s your main characters; Zoey, Stevie Rae, Neferet, etc. But even some of the smaller characters are given a spotlight this time around, such as Shaunee, Lenobia, and Dragon. Quick question for those who are kind enough to follow my blog: There’s going to be a short novella from Lenobia’s point of view right?? ‘Cuz there’s still some things left unanswered after Destined.
Neferet… Grrrrrr. There are no words I can use to describe her right now that would leave this post rated PG-13. She just gets worse with each addition to the series. Okay, at first, in Marked, she was amazing. And then….ugh. I hate her. So much.
But Kalona.. ohmygoodness you guys. You seriously need to read this book and just be amazed. Your mind will literally be blown by some of the stuff that happens.
And this new guy-Aurox. Yeah. I just don’t this kid. Which is saying something, ‘cuz I’m a major “Team Heath” fan. He’s just…not right. At all. I mean, towards the end he isn’t as bad, but still. Some of you guys will be furious with something at the end…..
P.C. and Kristin have done it again. I’ve loved the House of Night series from the beginning. What I love about series is that each separate book has its own plot, yet all together, the books for one huge plot. I think Destined is the start of the climax.
For those of you who haven’t read the rest of the series, shame on you. Just kidding :D But really, you need to read this series. And for those who have read books 1-8, you MUST read this one. If you’ve already read Destined, tell me what you think (or comment with a link to your review)!

Goodreads description: Breathing hard, Aurox stood there over the bodies of his vanquished enemies. He turned to Neferet.

"Very good," she said in her emotionless voice. "Let us leave this place before the authorities descend."

Aurox followed her. He walked heavily, his hooves gouging furrows in the dirty alley.

Weak. He felt weak. And more. There was something else.

"What is it?" She snapped at him when he hesitated before entering the car again.

"I do not know. I feel--"

She laughed. "You don't feel at all. You're obviously overthinking this."

"Yes, Priestess." Aurox got in the car and let the world speed past him.I do not think. I do not feel. I am a weapon.

Zoey is finally home where she belongs, safe with her Guardian Warrior, Stark, by her side, and preparing to face off against Neferet -- which would be a whole lot easier if the High Council saw the ex-High Priestess for what she really is.
